AI SEO is helping me generate an enormous amount of content and traffic, ranking on the first page of Google for my target keywords. Ever since ChatGPT was launched, less than 6 months at the time of this writing, an explosion of AI writing tools have emerged. I’m going to show you my first hand results of how I’m doing it and how you might want to consider it for your SEO strategy.
Yes, you can use AI for SEO. That’s the short answer of course. No one can stop you from firing up ChatGPT and asking it to create a blog for you. In fact, that was the first thing I did when OpenAI launched ChatGPT.
I have a Shopify store selling my own custom designed Apple Watch charging stand. I created the site back when the Apple watch was first released. I never really took it seriously nor did any SEO to it. My immediate thought when ChatGPT launched was, “Hey great. I’ll just ask ChatGPT to generate boat loads of content. Then I’ll copy and paste the content without any editing and I’ll get lots of traffic.
Well, that’s all nice and gravy in theory. How did that all turn out for me?
Website: HEDocks.com
Age of Domain: 9 Years
AI SEO Content Generated: 34 Articles
AI Tool Used: ChatGPT 3.0
Prompt Approach: Very Basic: Write an article about “The top safety features of the Apple Watch and how to use them.”
Human Editing: No edits, just copy and paste
SEO Research: I looked up some transactional keywords related to “buying an Apple Watch stand.” Overall, I spent very little effort and time on any SEO research. Most of it I fully trusted ChatGPT to do the whole thing. This is bad and the results can speak for themselves.

Google Search Console Report shows that total impressions have improved for the last 6 months, but I’ve only generated 13 clicks?!
Drilling deeper, it’s actually 6 clicks if I only include the AI articles. OMG, big fail.
Here’s what the Google Analytics report looks like. Yea, I know. It’s not any better. In summary, this is not the approach to use AI for SEO. All is not lost though, keep reading. ;)

No, AI copy is not bad for SEO as long as the copy is helpful! For SEO practitioners who have the fundamentals down, AI will augment your abilities. On the contrary, if you’re not very good at SEO, AI will actually do more harm.
Using AI to write SEO content can augment your ability to generate more content faster while maintaining content quality only if you know how to prep and steer the AI with smart prompting. As shared in the examples in this article, AI generated content can help you rank page one of Google for your targeted keywords or not even rank at all.
